Look and Feel beautiful with Adore Me

Everything in Weymouth is pretty beautiful at the moment. The sun has been shining, the garden is coming into flower, my pain is getting less so I'm needing less medication, and our little house is all clean and tidy again after the departure of the beautiful but messy retriever that we have been doggy-sitting.

I find that as summer arrives, I take notice more than ever of how I present myself. The sun and heat just make you want to look and feel your best. So, at just the right time, I was inspired by the brand Adore Me, after discovering some of some of their beautiful collections.

My look is usually bright and bold and influenced by different cultures around the world so I took an immediate liking to their Spring Brights collection. The deep pinks, vibrant teals and sun drenched yellows are totally my style.

Aren't they just beautiful? Both the blue and the coral pink go perfectly with my usual looks.

At the other end of the scale you find their classic and very feminine items which are perfect for a more romantic, special occasion. One of my favourites is from their bridal collection. It is the perfect combination of dainty and pretty but I like that they haven't stuck to the traditional pure white and instead added the touch of dusky pink that gives it character.

Classic, dewy skinned, natural makeup is the perfect partner for this pretty chemise because it doesn't take away from the delicate nature of the garment. I also think it is a great option when you are fair skinned like me.

DIY Dried Orange Christmas Decorations

First of all, I apologise for the varying photo quality in this post, winter does not offer good lighting when I'm only home in the evening!
Christmas is all about warmth and cosiness in my mind and nothing gives that extra special feeling in the same way as home made decorations, whether they be using dried fruit, pine cones, re-purposed toys, or any other item.
This year I have made several different types of home made decorations, including these which use oven dried orange slices.

The first step is to dry your fruit. You can use apples, pears, lemons or limes instead, but to me, Christmas is all about the orange! To dry the fruit you need to carefully slice it into 1cm thick slices. it is best to cut citrus fruit crossways so that you get the pretty cross section of the segments. Place the slices on a non-stick tray (or on baking parchment) and bake on the lowest heat setting for 8 hours, turning occasionally for an even bake. They may need a little longer depending on the oven so use your own judgement. After baking, leave overnight to dry out any last moisture. If this step is too daunting or time consuming then ebay have lots available for not too much money!

When dried, the orange slices will smell similar to marmalade which is pretty festive in itself! If you want to make the slices more hardy then coat with a thin layer of clear drying glue. I like to make sure that our house is filled with festive smells so I used a little paintbrush to dab a small amount of the Poppyfields Essence of Christmas (which is the best scent in the world by the way!). You can grab a bottle *here* for £5 should you wish and a small bottle lasts literally years :) After scenting the slices seal them in a freezer bag for a few hours to absorb the oil and let the scent mingle.

Once scented, simply make a small hole using a knitting needle or pencil tip and thread using some pretty twine or ribbon. Some slices may already have a hole in the centre from when drying, if so, make use of that :) Then just enjoy watching them glow like stained glass when light shines through them. If you use them on your Christmas tree, place them near lights so see them glow and also warm them slightly allowing the scent to release itself and fill the room.

With some of the slices, I threaded them, along with some pine cones that I also scented, onto some silver twine to make a pretty garland that looks really pretty along the mantelpiece or could also hang down the banisters

Boohoo #OwnIt Campaign

Although I usually write about beauty, I am also very into style and love making sure that I look good, even though I have a slightly quirky style (think fake fur and pink velvet gloves). I posted recently about the launch of Boohoo's plus size collection and today I wanted to show you their latest campaign.

The #OwnIt campaign, as you may have guessed is all about helping Boohoo customers make the most of their shape and find the style that suits them. Large or short, big or small we are all different and there is no one style that suits all so the #OwnIt campaign shows off some of the big styles of this year and using simple images like the ones above to quickly show you whether the style will flatter your shape.

Maybe not an item of clothing I'd choose to wear...although I do love metallics... a big trend that should suit almost everyone if the metallic bomber jacket. Great for wearing with either jeans or a dress, its a great way to layer up and keep an outfit looking casually stylish.

One of my favourites but not at all suited to my shape is the shirt dress. I definitely agree that shirt dresses look completely stunning on taller girls and being a hat lover I would totally pair it up with either a trilby or a big floppy hat and shades :)

A slightly dressier style but another favourite of mine is the double layer shift style. I'm a real hourglass girl so I find this shape is good for balancing out my shape and drawing the eye towards my slimmest area which is my waist.

Festival Fashion Essentials from House of Fraser

Summer time and Festival Season are finally upon us once again! That means it's time to do some epic shopping to find the ultimate festival fashion essentials.
One way that I've found to keep this as much fun and as low stress as possible is to grab a basket and lose myself in the local House of Fraser. Its a good way to see what different brands have to offer all in once place and I can grab my cheeky beauty bits and bobs at the same time ;)
So here are my top picks this festival season from HOF come sun or shower.

Come Sun:
1. Playsuits are perfect for festivals, fact! This Oasis playsuit is rocking the floral trend and lets you make the most of the lovely weather whilst making sure there are no post party drink pantie flashing blunders!
2. Small cross body bags are a great idea because they're big enough to hold the essentials without bulking you down and being cross body makes them more secure in big crowds of people. This red one from Mango is really sweet.
3. I don't go anywhere in the summer without my shades. This season I'm loving classic cat eye glasses like this pair from Oasis.

...Or Shower:

The Dandy Necklace

I love my job, I get paid to sellpeople products that I love, I'm allowed to be totally me and not get judged for it, and I work with some truly amazing people... however, my blog has been a little neglected since I started working so many more hours. I really am sorry about that, but we're getting there now, I'm back on track I think.

Today I just had to show you my funky new necklace that I bought from the website Geek Boutique which is run by a lovely lady, Rachel Tarbuck, who is a member of the beauty swap group that I belong to.

Excuse the mugshot, but isn't it amazing? I saw it and simply had to buy because it's just so me. For those who may not be able to see too clearly it says "Makeup Whore". The necklace is made from laser cut acrylic and is all shiny and bold and funky and for only £7 I think it was also really good value for money. I wear it all the time. There are several wording choices available, including the "Lush" necklace below that, being as in love with my job as I am, I had to buy soI can wear it when I'm working (in Lush by the way).

Seriously, everyone should take a look at Geek Boutique. I love the quirky style of the jewellery, and as its the lead up to christmas, why not take a look and stock up on some funky presents for people!

Summer Wardrobe Inspiration

recently I've been looking for new jobs because it feels like its time to move on from Sainsburys. I've been called for several interviews now but what I've found really tricky to put right is how to look stylish, professional and yet not over heat in this uber warm weather. I think I pretty much have this down to a tee now but heres a spot on inspiration.

Seriously, if money allowed, I would own this outfit, so so me!

Dress: How gorgeous is this pink dress from French Connection? Its 100% cotton which will allow your body to breathe a lot better than other fabrics. Choosing a bold colour will make you stand out to your interviewer. Its always beneficial to stand out from the crowd.

Blazer: I love mustard yellow paired with hot pink, its a combination that just works. This Topshop blazer is perfect for throwing on over the top for a professional look and can easily be removed if you feel yourself getting a little warm.

Shoes: Skyscraper heels may make you look and feel amazing but during a job interview the last thing you want to be worrying about is having uncomfortable feet for the whole time. These sturdy heeled T bar shoes from Office are practical, look great, and will stay a lot more comfortable for the whole day.

Necklace: I always think a piece of jewellery finishes an outfit nicely. With the high necked dress this lovely gold statement necklace from Accesorize works perfectly.

Handbag: Finally, as such a handbag fanatic I had to add one to the outfit. This gorgeous bag from Fiorelli is large enough to fit any important documents without the need to bend them such as CV's or training packs and I personally think that a leather bag always looks more professional than any old bag you may happen to be using at the time.

The Lust List- February

Hello!

I can't believe its March already, where is this year going? I've only just recovered from Christmas it seems and already we're in lent!

This fast flying time also means another pay day has been and gone and here's my february lust list of things that I would lovee to spend it on if real life didn't get in the way : )

1. How cute is this Topshop unicorn jumper? Shame I'm a little larger than the sizes they have left in stock.

2. I am a wedge addict and I am dying to get m hands on a pair of these striped heel wedges from Monsoon.

3. I'm a big fan of kooky homewares and this test tube shot glass set from Urban Outfitters is screaming my name.

4. Ponies! I am in love with this pony shirt and at only £10 from Asda, it may just find its way into my wardrobe sometime in the near future.

5. Handbags, my other addiction. This woven blue leather Annabelle bag from Lulu Guinness just draws me in, and sharing my name with this thing of beauty only adds to my excitement!

6. Another kooky homeware from Urban Outfitters! This lucky cat money box has a place in my heart. Especially while I'm trying so hard to save every penny I can.

7. How could I resist these Phycic 3 studded boots from Topshop. I'm almost relieved that they've already sold out.

8. Another entry from Topshop. This aztec sun top just wants to be mine.

So these are the items I have been lusting over for the past month. If I wasn't so excited to be saving up for a year in Spain in the not so distant future, I would be more than happy to welcome these lovelies into my open arms. Weekly Wedding Fix #5

Hello,
I've spent most of today travelling once again between Bath and Canterbury and this evening I'm relaxing with Daniel and our friend with a takeaway and a few glasses of Malibu and lemonade :)

This week I've put together a pretty golden wedding for you.

1.This beautiful dress from Phase Eight is a romantic yet sleek, understated design, and I think it would be the perfect choice for a golden wedding. The simple design allows the gold detailing to make a big impression and would look wonderful teamed with a boho inspired hairstyle.

2. Light gold is a sweet choice for the bridesmaid dresses which also have detailing in the fabric adding a pretty touch to the simple cut of the dress along with a touch of glamour. Darker gold dresses tend to be unflattering on certain skin tones so be careful when picking out your colour.

3. What girl can resist a pair of glittered up shoes? This light gold pair from Kurt Geiger are the perfect shade for this theme and they're currently in the sale. The across foot strap also makes them a comfier choice to party the night away in.

4. Elephants are considered to be very lucky in many cultures and this Lucky Elephant bookmark provides a lovely reminder for your guests of your big day whilst also showing them that you wish them well in the future. And lets face it, they're incredibly cute too!

5. Peonies are a traditional wedding favourite, and lets face it, they're beautiful. I love that this bouquet pairs the beautiful light peonies with fresh green buds which instantly lifts the whole display. A bunch of white roses would also be a romantic choice.

6. A gold theme allows you to go all out when it comes to extravagant decorations and this gold embellished cake shows that although too much gold can seem tacky, if you get the balance just right you can create a stunning effect that will wow your guests.

7. Charger plates are a beautiful way to carry your colour theme onto your tables. They add depth and visual interest to the table as well as making the overall effect more impressive. I really like the shining gold pattern on the crockery used here.

8. Believe it or not, this gentle peach cocktail is a take on the traditional Spanish drink, sangria. Made using peaches and vanilla beans it has a much softer, summery flavour and would be a lovely choice for a summertime wedding.

A Few Favourites :)

Today has been a long day with a 9 hour shift at work. What nicer way to unwind than by coming home and escaping to the dream world created by pinterest. I love looking over my boards when I'm feeling a little run down to cheer myself up and get a little motivation back :)

Here are a few of my favourites at the moment.

1. I think this is a pretty creative way to keep all of those pesky make-up brushes and eyeliner pencils organised so that they don't magically vanish into the depths of the make-up bag.

2. I am addicted to these yummy chocolate oaty treats. I posted the recipe for them *here*

3. This pin makes me smile because every girl should have a friendship as strong as this. My very best friend is going through a lot with illness at the moment but I know that one day this will be us. I love her to pieces.

4. How gorgeous is this pink kitchen? I think pink is a great colour in the kitchen, it seems to just shout domestic goddess to me whilst inspiring me to bake scary amounts of cake :P

5. These colours are just beautiful together and I love love love them mixed with the wood of the table. This would be an excellent colour theme for a wedding.

6. This is a sound piece of advice and a mantra that I try my best to live by. I think this would be a nice quote to paint either above a wardrobe entrance or around the edge of a mirror.
