My Little Box: The Provence Box

I jumped on the beauty box bandwagon when they were still  pretty new concept to the UK a while back now but eventually stopped receiving any because they just got too boring and samey. However, recently, I started noticing people picking up My Little Box and found myself interested once again because I love that they offer a mix of fashion, beauty and lifestyle in their boxes. I've been subscribed for a couple of months now and have really been enjoying receiving my box of pretty surprises through the post.

The theme of this months box was Provence, with all of the items drawing inspiration from the beautiful sun drenched region of France.
I was really happy to open my box and find nestled inside a cute drawstring bag (which is now being used to store our sewing kit) lots of little L'Occitane goodies.
L'Occitane originated from Provence so what better brand to feature! From their range each subscriber received a 50ml Mer and Mistral shower gel, 25g Verbena soap, 30ml Verbena body lotion and a 10ml Roses et Reines hand and nail cream. Tom already has his eye on the shower gel but as a big fan of L'Occitane, I know I will use up all of these very happily. They make some of the very best hand creams and body lotions in my opinion!
As well as the L'Occitane goodies, there was also a My Little Beauty eyeshadow crayon in a pretty bronze shade that will look perfect with most things in the summer. I wear a lot of gold and bronze so I was really happy with this too. It is soft and creamy and has great staying power. At the moment you aren't able to purchase from the My Little Beauty website in the UK (apparently they're working on it!) so it is nice to receive an item from the My Little Box beauty range in each box.
There was also a rather cute sheet of magnets featuring a doll who you can dress up in Provence inspired attire. I wasn't overly fussed by this but I've plonked them on the side of the fridge for the time being, leaving Tom a little dismayed.
Finally, inside the little box which say "Sunny things inside" was a little gold coloured cuff bracelet with two pretty blue threads to use to DIY your own little accessory. This I did enjoy. As I've been stuck sat on my bum in silly amounts of pain for the past two weeks I welcomed the distraction. The result is photographed below. I also used the pink string necklace from last months box to add a bit of extra personality to my bracelet.

I think this box was great value and once again, My Little Box have come up with something varied, unique and that will be enjoyable for subscribers.

Look and Feel beautiful with Adore Me

Everything in Weymouth is pretty beautiful at the moment. The sun has been shining, the garden is coming into flower, my pain is getting less so I'm needing less medication, and our little house is all clean and tidy again after the departure of the beautiful but messy retriever that we have been doggy-sitting.

I find that as summer arrives, I take notice more than ever of how I present myself. The sun and heat just make you want to look and feel your best. So, at just the right time, I was inspired by the brand Adore Me, after discovering some of some of their beautiful collections.

My look is usually bright and bold and influenced by different cultures around the world so I took an immediate liking to their Spring Brights collection. The deep pinks, vibrant teals and sun drenched yellows are totally my style.

Aren't they just beautiful? Both the blue and the coral pink go perfectly with my usual looks.

At the other end of the scale you find their classic and very feminine items which are perfect for a more romantic, special occasion. One of my favourites is from their bridal collection. It is the perfect combination of dainty and pretty but I like that they haven't stuck to the traditional pure white and instead added the touch of dusky pink that gives it character.

Classic, dewy skinned, natural makeup is the perfect partner for this pretty chemise because it doesn't take away from the delicate nature of the garment. I also think it is a great option when you are fair skinned like me.

I would definitely recommend taking a look at the Adore Me website. Their ranges are beautiful and their prices very reasonable.

Last year I was stuck in a bit of a job rut and felt as though I really needed to start pushing myself.
With no room to grow in my position I thought it was about time I started looking for something that would help me flourish.
My blog has always managed to gain me some incredible opportunities so I thought that using it as tool to gain a new career would be ideal.
Everything I’ve learnt through blogging I could put into action into my new career, and like an extension to my CV, my blog would help my future employer know what I’m all about.
As I know many people will be looking for a new job in 2015 I thought I would share with you the steps I took to bagging my dream job, all with the help of my little blog.
Do Your Research
Although I’d signed up to a few recruitment agencies, it seems as though they’re still stuck in the dark ages when it comes to finding the perfect position, so I took it upon myself to do my own job search.
Rather than go through the usual Google search I decided to use more modern methods.
Looking on twitter under various hashtags and through Facebook helped me to stumble across a few roles up for grabs.
I also looked on company websites that I thought would be cool to work with, even some big brand names.
Just spending an hour a day using different resources helped me find places that the traditional recruitment agencies would never have even thought of.
Get Talking
After I’d found companies I had an interest in I started to do a little social stalking.
You can find out so much about a company from their social sites.
So once I felt that a company had a good approach to their employees and customers, I started to get involved with their twitter conversations.
This is a great way to start getting yourself noticed and to find common ground with any future colleagues. It’s a little trick I learnt from this article, which tells you how to get an interview with anyone!
Impress Their Socks Off
I came to realise in my job search that everyone sends emails.
And even as someone without a huge blog inboxes can become a nightmare to keep on top of.
So knowing that I didn’t want my email to just become another number I decided to take matters into my hands and invest in a little self-promotion.
Polishing up my CV, I popped it into a neon orange envelope a long with a packet of sweets, and a USB stick like this one, filled with some pieces of works as well as articles from my blog.
It might have cost me a small penny, but if I was going to set myself apart I had to make an impact and separate myself from the usual suspects.
Get Bloggy With It
Once I’d done all I could to lay the groundwork of my future career, I started posting more regularly on my blog with articles that my future employer might find relevant.
Promoting it through all of my social channels and even tagging the company in my post meant they’d have an instant notification of my article.
Having a blog has never been more beneficial than when you can use it to go into a new role that perhaps years ago, would have only been available to those with specific qualifications.
If there’s a job you’re longing to get into utilise your blog and show them what you can do.

Boohoo #OwnIt Campaign

Although I usually write about beauty, I am also very into style and love making sure that I look good, even though I have a slightly quirky style (think fake fur and pink velvet gloves). I posted recently about the launch of Boohoo's plus size collection and today I wanted to show you their latest campaign.

The #OwnIt campaign, as you may have guessed is all about helping Boohoo customers make the most of their shape and find the style that suits them. Large or short, big or small we are all different and there is no one style that suits all so the #OwnIt campaign shows off some of the big styles of this year and using simple images like the ones above to quickly show you whether the style will flatter your shape.

Maybe not an item of clothing I'd choose to wear...although I do love metallics... a big trend that should suit almost everyone if the metallic bomber jacket. Great for wearing with either jeans or a dress, its a great way to layer up and keep an outfit looking casually stylish.

One of my favourites but not at all suited to my shape is the shirt dress. I definitely agree that shirt dresses look completely stunning on taller girls and being a hat lover I would totally pair it up with either a trilby or a big floppy hat and shades :)

A slightly dressier style but another favourite of mine is the double layer shift style. I'm a real hourglass girl so I find this shape is good for balancing out my shape and drawing the eye towards my slimmest area which is my waist.

Plus Size Launch at Boohoo

Boohoo is perhaps one of my favourite sites to pick up reasonably priced yet fashion forward bargains so when an email pinged into my inbox announcing the launch of their plus size range I popped over to check it out.
As a size 14-16 with fairly substantial bust sometimes I find that a size 14 doesn't fit my top so get frustrated that it stops me being able to shop for certain styles on Boohoo and several other sites so it will be interesting to see what they add.
At the moment there's only 3 pages worth of plus size clothing on there, I'm not sure if that will expand over the next few weeks but the range is available in sizes 16-24 and there are some lovely pieces on there that you can check out *here*.

A Beautiful Birthday Box

As I mentioned yesterday, I recently did a birthday box swap with a lovely lady from the beauty group I am part of on facebook. We set a budget of £40, gave each other a good idea of the sort of things that we liked and set off to put together a big box of goodies for one another. Here's what was in my gift-my goodness I was excited to unwrap all of these lovely things :D

As you can see, Lolly the Grumpy Kitty decided she wanted to get involved with photo taking so please excuse the massive head n the foreground :P There was such a great variety of things in this box, just looking makes me excited.

Nichola put a fab selection of sweet treats into the box. There was also a melody pop and a love hearts dib dab...they got eaten before I took the photo though. I made a best friend very happy by taking the rainbow drops over when we had a girly evening.

Just throwing this out there, but these socks are loved a CRAZY amount. They remind me of what I think a Minecraft owl would look like. And also how thoughtful to pick up something owly because of my little obsession :) The Yankee tarts are gorgeous foodie scents and because they're discontinued scents I'm really going to treasure using them.

Skincare is one of my favourite things, I love trying out new products and if you read my post yesterday then you'll already know that since trying the Nuxe goodies, I have fallen in love with them. I haven't used the La Roche Posay or Melvita yet because I have so much on the go but they both also sound amazing.

Next up was some body products to keep me feeling beautiful all over. The square soap was brought back from Nichola's holiday which I thought was a lovely touch, it has a lovely clean, honey scent and as soon as I've finished up th bar I'm using (which fittingly is a big version of the little Body Shop Chocomania hearts here) I will be moving on to this. What excited me most out of these products though was the Betty Hula Anti-bacterial Hand Cream which is scented with champagne and spice. I haven't used Betty Hula products before and this smells and feels divine on my skin.

These three were popped straight into my handbag for their sheer usefulness. I was so excited to see the Bath and Body Works mini sanitiser in the box because I haven't had the chance to try the range before and I've heard so many amazing things, and I haven't been disappointed- it smells delicious! The peach body spray has a lovely scent too, very sweet and fresh which is perfect for a midday pick me up.

Its no secret that my biggest love is makeup so I was soooo excited to unwrap these goodies especially. I actually squealed when I opened the Illamsqua! The MAC lipstick was also a real excitement and I have a post on the way about that beauty. I wasn't as excited about the Baby Lips UK launch as a lot of beauty fanatics so hadn't picked one up before receiving my swap box but I really was missing out, I adore the silky smooth formula and light coloured finish so I have a review of that coming up too :)

So many amazing things. I really was spoilt with this swap and I cannot express just how grateful I am for everything I received and will love using them all. There were also a selection of samples nestled in among the gifts and the package was contained in a beautiful blue box with a peacock on the lid (another of my favourite animals :D)
I am a very lucky lady!

July's Pay Day Treats!

Another payday passing means another little shopping trip for Annie! Shopping is definitely more fun if you've been waiting all month before treating yourself to a mini splurge.
This month I've been fairly well behaved and not bought too much (being strict with myself may be starting to pay off?!?) but I do love the things I have bought.

My first stop off was to a gorgeous little boutique that I've actually not been into before called Traffic People where I picked up the earrings in the photo above and the necklace in the photo below. My friend and I actually stumbled upon the store on our way to get sushi but I'm so glad we did, it's a little gem full of pretty things (@Trafficppl on twitter if you want to find them and say hi!) As well as selling pretty, unique styles of jewellery they also sell pretty dresses and accessories. New favourite shop for sure!

I paid £10 each for the earrings and necklace which I'm happy with. I liked the earrings so much that I actually wore them straight away and the necklace has been worn today so I'm thinking cost per wear is going to make both items pretty fab value for money.

Next we called into Lush where I picked up a couple of bits that I was running out of. I also finally grabbed a small bottle of Flowers Barrow which is from the Gorilla Perfume range and is a quintessentially English scent built up of rose, geranium, blackcurrant, chamomile as well as a blend of herbs. What I love about Lush perfume is that the high concentration of essential oils in the blend mean that the perfume sits uniquely on each persons skin and smells different to on everyone else so its like wearing my own special scent. The size I bought retails for £14.

On down to Accessorize where I picked up these two sweet little rings in the sale for just £3 for the two. It was the peace ring that drew me in because although it doesn't show from the photo, the stones are actually a pretty milky white and glow almost like opals do. Pretty!

Our final stop was Urban Outfitters. I have wanted this cat cup for months now and just couldn't justify it for anything but when I saw that it was in the sale for £4 I had to bring it home. I'm actually using it to store my shorter makeup brushes because the large Cath Kidston vase I bought last month in the sale is fairly tall and some of the brushes had been lost in the depths. £4 well spent I feel!

So that is this months little haul. I think I was fairly restrained to be honest. I did also spend £6 on a pair of shoes from Asda but I forgot to take a photo of those, oops!

Payday Shopping Treats!

I got paid! Woo! Everyones favourite day of the month.
Most of the month I try to be good with money and limit shopping, especially recently when my hours haven't been as high as is ideal but this month I've treated myself to some bits and pieces since there seems to be sales on everywhere at the moment!

My first stop was Cath Kidston because I happened to be opposite the shop when I spotted the big sales signs and thought it would be rude not to! I picked up a few little bits here including one of the cute oil cloth makeup bags for £4 which went straight in my handbag and some shell buttons £1.50 and a pin tin £2.50 to go in my sewing box ready to create beautiful things.

I also picked up this beautiful glass vase for £6 to store all of my makeup brushes. Its a tiny bit taller than ideal but it looks beautiful on my dressing table :)

Next was a trip down to Boots because I've been needing a new foundation. No7 makeup is currently buy one get the second 1/2 price so I was able to pick up the Instant Radiance foundation I've been wanting to try for £12.50 and get a really pretty Stay Perfect cream eyeshadow for just £4 instead of the usual £8.

Finally I hit the Topshop sale. I love their jewellery and accessories and always look forward to picking them up reduced because I do find things a bit pricey for what they are otherwise. At the moment I'm loving metallic ankle socks so I picked up 3 pairs for £2 each, my favourite have to be the mint. Jewellery wise I was really restrained despite loving loads of bits and just came away with this fab green bracelet for £4.25 I just love how vibrant the colours are and that its something slightly different.

So thats my payday haul. For the amount I spent I think I did really well and the only thing I paid full price for was the foundation and even that was kind of discounted over all!

The June Lust List

Money is super tight for me this month and I swear not being able to afford to shop makes you lust after so much more than usual! I've seen so many beautiful things on my wanders that I'd love to own but just can't afford to buy and it makes me sad haha.
Here are the top few things that are on my Lust List this month.

1. Nars Sheer Matte Foundation- I've been using the Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid foundation for quite a while now and I really love having a higher end foundation to provide a good base to build from so after hearing great things about the Nars one I'd like to give it a go :)

2. Topshop Chunky Flower Bracelet- I'm all about statement jewellery and this pretty pink Topshop bracelet is a lovely piece for summer and festival season!

3. Topshop Hyper Sandals- Believe it or not its actually been a couple of years since I last bought sandals so I think its about time I treated myself to a new pair. These funky pink ones caught my eye and I fell in love with them.

4. Dolce and Gabanna Pour Femme- I simply need this smell in my life. It is truly beautiful. With top notes of   neroli, raspberry and mandarin, middle notes of sweet orange blossom and jasmine and a base of marshmallow, vanilla and sandalwood its incredibly sensual, sexy and my dream smell.

5. Urban Outfitters Ethnic Animal Slip Dress- So cute! I live in little dresses, cardigans and tights and this dress is totally up my street with its sweet little animal print.

Pay day cannot come fast enough :) Although I need to be good and start saving some money anyway so maybe the shopping trip will have to wait a while. What are you lusting after this month?

Festival Fashion Essentials from House of Fraser

Summer time and Festival Season are finally upon us once again! That means it's time to do some epic shopping to find the ultimate festival fashion essentials.
One way that I've found to keep this as much fun and as low stress as possible is to grab a basket and lose myself in the local House of Fraser. Its a good way to see what different brands have to offer all in once place and I can grab my cheeky beauty bits and bobs at the same time ;)
So here are my top picks this festival season from HOF come sun or shower.

Come Sun:
1. Playsuits are perfect for festivals, fact! This Oasis playsuit is rocking the floral trend and lets you make the most of the lovely weather whilst making sure there are no post party drink pantie flashing blunders!
2. Small cross body bags are a great idea because they're big enough to hold the essentials without bulking you down and being cross body makes them more secure in big crowds of people. This red one from Mango is really sweet.
3. I don't go anywhere in the summer without my shades. This season I'm loving classic cat eye glasses like this pair from Oasis.

...Or Shower:
1. No festival kit is complete without a small but very waterproof jacket! I love how this Bench jacket is bang on trend but will still keep you and your possessions dry with its big pockets :)
2. Everyone knows to pack their wellies as well and as much as I like bright, fun ones, this black pair from Aldo with their zip detail really caught my eye.

Beauty:
1. It can be so easy to "forget" sun cream because it can feel gross on skin and seems to have very little purpose other than spoil your fun by stopping you tanning. Big no-no! Treat yourself to Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess sun cream and protect yourself with factor 30 that will also help you to build up a light golden glow without feeling heavy or sticky on the skin.
2. Being a cosmetic junkie its always hard not to over pack my makeup bag when I go away (case proven here) which is why something like Benefit's Primping with the Stars kit is a must have in my festival essentials kit. It contains a little of everything needed to keep skin looking fresh despite lack of sleep so theres only the need to take minimal extras on the side :)

Being Brave, the First OOTD-This is me

I'va always thought of myself as someone that gets seen as "pretty face, shame about the body". I have a beautiful, slender best friend, a love for reading fashion blogs and magazines full of gorgeous, size 6-10 women, and a fiance who can eat whatever he likes and still keep his six pack. Over time, the huge focus size that is everywhere has really made me feel very conscious about being, what I don't actually think is huge, at a size 16.
So I think the time has come to take control of the insecurities and say to myself, yes, this is me, and whilst I may not look like a swimwear model, I am happy and thats what matters. Part of that process for me is to stop hiding away and start writing OOTD posts here on the blog because I need to stop worrying that strangers will judge me for being me. Haters gonna hate so go ahead :)

The Art of Purse Shopping

I have found out in all my years of shopping that purse shopping seems to give women the most trouble. Oh, I know there is always trouble when it comes to fitting dresses, pants, and tops as well, especially if you do not have the model perfect shape that most clothes seem to be made for. But purses pose a major problem for most women. Not that it isn’t easy to see a purse you love but then to when you get it home is it practical? Every woman is different in their purse needs as far as size, pockets, and organization.

Purse shopping can be very difficult. Even if you go to the store and pick out a purse it is a hard task. Unless you are the type of person who buys essentially the same type of purse every time, just in a different shade, and then that is dependent upon whether they continue to make your purse every year which I doubt.

The way I purse shop is first I go through and see what catches my eye and if it is generally in the right size category then I pick it up and look at the latch or zipper to see if it is going to stay closed no matter what I stuff into it. Then I check and see if it has the right amount of pockets inside and if there is at least one with a zipper to keep things from slinging around inside the purse. If I am still intrigued with the purse I have even gone as far as to take everything out of my purse and put it into the purse in question to see how everything will fit!

On my part, I always run the risk of getting a purse too big instead of too small. I know I can not manage with a purse that will not take all my necessities, and there are a lot of necessities believe me, but I also can not manage a purse that holds too much. I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to purse contents. There are things I need and things that I may need. There are things that collect and things that others want me to store for them while we are out and about. If I am with children there are even toys. The bigger the purse the more requests to carry and the heavier and harder it gets. You also run the risk of the bottomless purse. Does anyone else out there ever feel like Mary Poppins with her magic bottomless bag? I know people sometimes watch me to see if I’m going to pull out a hat stand or something while waiting for me to find something in the bottom of my purse!

Hey, I have had literal nightmares about purses over the years. Because I have had many large purses and had a hard time finding things in them for embarrassingly long periods of time while waiting in line this has actually produced nightmares. You know, one of those running and not going anywhere nightmares onlyI am looking for something in my purse that is critical to my staying alive and I can never find it! Horrible dreams that I awake from promising myself to get a more manageable purse.

When you are young you can afford to be a little more impractical in your purse styles but as you get a little older (and hopefully wiser) like me you really need to think of practicality a little bit more than style. I would never leave out style completely but after many years of being the style queen and giving up ease of use I am resigned to the fact that I need to now look for the most practical purse with style. Is that too much to hope for in a purse? I say not, but those purse manufacturers out there (who hopefully all have a woman advisor on their team) sure do need to carry around those stylish purses for awhile before they send them out into the world.

Misbehave Boutique Haul

It's been a long time now since I've written a haul post so this one is more than over due.
One of my favourite things about the world of blogging is finding shops and companies that I would have otherwise been unaware of. Misbehave Boutique was a twitter find and as soon as I clicked on to their website I knew that I was going to end up hauling a lot of goodies.
My go to accessories are always big earrings and cocktail rings if I want something in addition to my engagement ring and I'm not up to anything special so thats exactly what I bought :)

It's no secret that I love owls and the first pair of earrings I got were there rather unconventional but very cute owl face earrings.
Next up I chose these amazing bright pink geo drop earrings. I was thinking of summer and sunshine when they fell in to my trolley and they're going to be getting lots of wear when I'm in Tenerife (outfit posts are coming soon fashion lovers!)
The little blue eyed earrings really caught my attention with their big, fluttery lids and because they're smaller they can be worn nice and subtly with a lot of outfits.
My last pair of earrings are these amazing drop down hands which I think may be my favourite pair. They hang down from the ear clutching their little jewels :)

And now the finger bling!
The gold crocodile ring came as a free present because I spent over £15, along with a pair of studs and a hairband...I forgot to photograph those, oops! He's really cute and I'm really happy with him.
The little hare ring on my middle finger is the piece of jewellery that drew me to Misbehave Boutique. The hare ring is quite small so I either wear it on my pinkie finger or on my middle finger like I am here.
Finally is this big, striking eye ring. This is probably the biggest ring I own and its definitely very eye catching! The ring itself is adjustable so can be worn by most people on any finger they want but what I like the most is the colour of the gemstones.

Big earrings!

I'm not in the most fab of moods today for a mixture of reasons so instead of writing a moany, mopey post I thought I'd share a few photos of something that does make me very happy indeed. Bold lips and big earrings are how I role these days so here's a little look at one of my favourite collections of mine :)

Doesn't the shiny, sparkleyness just make you smile? It does me.

Fashion Vouchers Christmas Party Outfit Blogger Challenge

I love a little creative competition every now and then so when Fashion Vouchers emailed me to tell me about their christmas party outfit competition I just had to enter.
What you have to do is select a retailer from their shop list and build an outfit from that one merchant for £100 or less. Fashion Vouchers work with loads of shops so it was actually pretty hard to choose just one but in the end I picked Missguided because it is my go to shop for bang on trend, affordable clothes and shoes.

I went for a fairly simple outfit that combines several big winter trends using studded clothing, deep red garments and statement jewellery.

Dress: I went for this pretty red bandeau dress with a black studded belt because I think it is more festive than the typical LBD and adds instant warmth. £24.99

Tights: Badlt edited onto the dress in the collage I know! I went for opaque 120 denier tights to contrast against the red dress and to bring the dress into winter. £5.99

Shoes: Taking inspiration from the belt I chose a pair of bold, stud detailed shoes which add an edge to the look whilst not looking out of place. I chose suede effect as I think the matte black works better with the tone of the outfit and the red sole detail also ties in with the dress. £32.99

Clutch: As with the shoes, I wanted the clutch to tie in well with the rest of the outfit so went for a black, studded design. The gold chain strap makes it easy to carry and the envelope style gives plenty of room for essentials whilst looking smart and on trend. £19.99

Necklace: Finally, one statement piece of jewellery completes the look and stops the bare shoulder and neck area looking too exposed. I felt that a baroque, lace design worked well with the slightly gothic red and black yet still looked pretty and feminine. £9.99

The total cost of my Missguided christmas party look comes in at £93.95 in total.
