June Favourites 2014

So, I'm currently propped up in bed ill, with not enough energy to really allow me to do much more than watch Netflix and browse Pinterest (http://www.pinterest.com/lampysplace/ if you're interested in beauty, home decor and recipes). At least Lolly the Grumpy Kitty is enjoying having some company.

I've been a bit naughty lately and treated myself to new products from some of the limited edition MAC collections as well as a Hugo Boss Deep Red perfume, however, I'm trying not to feel too guilty because they have all become instant favourites, alongside several golden oldies that I have been loving lately.

I've mentioned the Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid foundation (review *here*) many times before and it is a foundation that I still keep returning too when I want a nice even coverage that looks natural yet hides a multitude of sins. I went back to using this lately after the madness I had with the Seventeen Miracle Matte Foundation (review *here*) and have fallen right back in love with it.
The first of my little MAC purchases was from the Disney Maleficent collection in the form of the sculpting powder in shade Sculpt which is a tan matte powder perfect for contouring along cheek bones for a defined look. Whilst it is now out of stock, the closest MAC bronzer I can find is *here*.
Its unfortunate but just an accepted fact that I sometimes have trouble with spot prone skin. I don't know why because I eat healthily, take care of my face and don't have excessively oily skin but I guess it's just one of those things. Nothing works as well for me as the Clinique Anti Blemish Solutions Spot Treatment Gel (review *here*)which has been getting a lot of use during the last month as my skin grumps about the hot weather.
When the weather is warm I tend to avoid too much eye makeup because I find that it tend to smudge a little and just end up looking less pristine than I would like. This summer, instead, I have been sweeping on a couple of coats of the Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara* (review *here*) which never fails to impress me with its results. It coats and lifts eyelashes instantly mking them look fuller and longer and the result lasts all day without smudging or clumping. Its a firm favourite.
My other naughty MAC purchase was the Mineralise Skinfinish Duo in Jolly Good (review in the next couple of days) from the Kelly Osbourne collection which is still in stock in a lot of stores so you can grab it if you're quick! This soft bronze powder is perfect for fair skinned girls like me who want to add a touch of warmth but nothing too dark. I either use it lightly all over for a glowing look or pair with the Maleficent powder to contour my cheek bones.
Finally, a perfume that I wanted for a long long time and finally bought myself a few weeks ago. Deep Red is a really warm, yet soft and sensual smell which is womanly without being overly sweet. Right now I can't get enough of it!

February Favourites 2014!

February has felt like a month of recovering from winter and getting excited about spring this year and I've found myself reaching for spring ready makeup more and more in the last couple of weeks and I think this months favourite products really reflect that.

I love a nice flawless base and I find that the lovely fresh weather we've been having lately suits the Max Factor Whipped Creme Foundation perfectly. It is a good coverage for building up a medium level of coverage with the smallest amount and where the formula has been whipped into a light mousse it still lets skin breath. I've been pairing it with a beautiful coral pink baked blush from Accessorize for a glowing, light flush of colour. The small amount of shimmer hits the light and gives a sheen that enhances cheekbones.
I've also been focusing on bold eye makeup lately, giving some less tried out products a trial so lips have been kept nice and simple. I've found myself reaching regularly for my Brave lipstick from MAC which was actually the first MAC lipstick I ever owned. It is a pinky nude shade that is barely there but gives lips a beautiful definition and lasts for hours. On drier lip days I've been whipping out a little piece of Lush history in the form of the Snow Fairy Lip Tint which combines the benefits of a lip balm with a slight wash of colour. It also tastes just like their Bubblegum Lip Scrub. I'd say that whilst this is no longer available to buy it is very comparable to the Maybelline Baby Lips products.
To complete my spring ready vibe I've been dousing myself in my all time favourite perfume; Moschino Funny which has been my signature summer scent for years now. Its full of beautifully bold fruity notes and to me just sums up so many happy years.
Finally, because no matter how much I try to deny it, it is still kind of winter out there and so my skin is still annoyingly dry I've been treating it to a daily helping of the rich and deeply moisturising Ambre Vanille Souffle Body Cream. I cannot get enogh of this stuff! It works wonders on my skin and smells completely out of this world. It's such a sophisticated, sensual smell- nothing like your average vanilla scent.

January Favourites 2014!

Suddenly it seems that February is upon us, which is crazy since it feels like January has only just begun, but here we are.
It's been a month of rediscovering old favourites rather than purchasing new especially since I'm not currently working so I've been shopping my stash and have fallen in love all over again with products that I've owned for a while.

First up is the very first perfume I ever owned and I can't actually remember where or how I got it but I rediscovered the Britney Spears Curious perfume just before Christmas and have been loving it ever since. It's such a warm, long lasting scent made up from light fruits and florals held to the skin with a base of vanilla and sandalwood. Usually I'm not a fan of celebrity fragrances but believe it or not, this one is actually really sensual and sophisticated.
Who doesn't love Nars blushers? I bought Orgasm around this time last year and loved it for months before moving on to bronzer for the summer. I used this during the pantomime season to add a pop of coral glow and since then haven't been able to get enough of it, especially now I have my fringe back so I'm going for an almost doll like look with pale skin, pink cheeks and bright lips. Beautiful!
Illamasqua is without a doubt one of my favourite makeup brands. The products are beautiful and the ranges are always so unique. Sparce is a baby pink speckle effect polish from the I'mperfection collection. I also have Speckle which is the same effect in purple which I use fairly often but the other day I picked up Sparce as a change and remembered just how pretty this mini egg reminiscent shade is!
I've raved a lot recently about the Clinique Spot Treatment Gel and oh my goodness I've needed it in this last week or so especially! After a few too many late nights my skin rebels but this works wonders to keep it in check and back to normality super fast.
Finally is the Rumble in the Jungle palette from Catrice. I picked this up when I was last over in Mallorca along with a few other bits to try out the brand. I adore all four of the colours and they work so well together. I've been using either the purple or light green along with my Naked 3 palette to add colour along the crease and just above to liven up the look a little because we all know how I like colour!

Dolce and Gabbana Pour Femme Perfume

After being mentioned in my December favourites post a few days ago, several people contacted me wanting to hear a bit more about my all time favourite perfume.
The scent of Dolce and Gabbana Pour Femme was created to encapsulate the essence of the Dolce and Gabbana woman. "Passionate, sensual and seductive, confident and aware of her own beauty" are the words plucked from the online description and I think I'd agree with that, it is definitely a bold, sensually feminine perfume.

Coming in a sleek, understated but stylish bottle, Pour Femme is classed as a soft oriental fragrance. With light top notes of mandarin, raspberry and neroli that melt away into heart notes of jasmine and orange blossom the initial scent is light, crisp and slightly floral but this mellows out into a beautifully scent that sits on the skin with a soft vanilla and sexy sandalwood hint.
I have been so impressed with the longevity of this perfume. I use around three ...spritzeseses... in the morning and that small amount is enough to keep the aroma all day without it fading to nothing or distorting into something smelling any less beautiful.
As you may have guessed, this little bottle of beauty doesn't come cheap at £57.50 for 50ml but after one waft of a sample vial almost a year ago I was hooked and it really has become my signature scent so I think it's worth every penny :)

December Favourites

December is definitely the season of bright, sparkly makeup, glowing skin and long, fluttery lashes and I've enjoyed embracing all of these things during the festive period. Here's a little look at my top 5 from December.

Top of my favourites list, and reached for almost every day is the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette £37 which I have found is totally perfect for creating soft, romantic smokey effects that just enhance the eye a little and look beautiful with lashings of volumising mascara.
When it comes to mascara I am generally very picky so when I was recommended the 17 Va Va Voom mascara £6.29 when my old favourite ran out I thought I'd give it a try. I have to say that I've been incredibly impressed and found it actually much better quality than some mascara's that cost twice or three times as much.
With it being party season, the false lashes have been whipped out a fair few times, especially since its also panto season for me and everyone knows that a pantomime fairy need big, fluttery lashes. I have found nothing better than eyelure lashes which retail for around £5 for ease of application, staying power and also beauty! They are so feminine and there is a design for all styles so I think it may well be love!
A warm golden glow is the look I've been going for with my skin, using a light bronzer, illuminating primers and then to top it off, contouring with the gorgeous Benefit Watts Up Highlighter £24.50 both along my brow bone and down the cheek bones to give a soft focus shimmer. This product is so flattering and such a lovely soft colour that I've found it one of the easiest, most satisfying highlighters to use.
Finally is a perfume that I have yearned for since April when I originally received a sample vial and was lucky enough to be treated to for Christmas. Dolce and Gabbana Pour Femme £57.50 for 50ml is a beautiful  warm oriental fragrance that has top notes of orange blossom, raspberry and neroli as well as a heart of vanilla, marshmallow and sandalwood which all combine to create a sensual, warm scent that has me hooked!

Lush Scents Ponche Perfume

Every year around November Lush host their annual fragrance party and release a selection of five limited edition perfumes sharing the scent of some of their most loved products and all Lush fans get over excited to see which will make the cut.
Ponche was a limited edition shower gel launched last year as part of the Christmas range and brought back this year due to popular demand. It also happens to be one of my favourite Lush scents of all time!

Inspired by a buying trip to Mexico last year, ponche is inspred by a zesty Mexican Christmas punch. I'm talking blended orange, cinnamon, buchu, petigrain and a splash of tequila so as you can imagine, the scent is warm, fruity and full bodied. It terms of wear I have been really impressed. A light spray in the morning and I've found that I can still smell it late afternoon thanks to the high concentration of essential oils (10%).
For a 30ml bottle the cost is £23 which for a high quality perfume is very reasonable. Also in the collection is Calacas at £25, Rose Jam at £30 (this came out last year and smells divine!), Snow Fairy at £25 and Snowcake at £23 all of which are gorgeous smells and equally as high in quality.

July's Pay Day Treats!

Another payday passing means another little shopping trip for Annie! Shopping is definitely more fun if you've been waiting all month before treating yourself to a mini splurge.
This month I've been fairly well behaved and not bought too much (being strict with myself may be starting to pay off?!?) but I do love the things I have bought.

My first stop off was to a gorgeous little boutique that I've actually not been into before called Traffic People where I picked up the earrings in the photo above and the necklace in the photo below. My friend and I actually stumbled upon the store on our way to get sushi but I'm so glad we did, it's a little gem full of pretty things (@Trafficppl on twitter if you want to find them and say hi!) As well as selling pretty, unique styles of jewellery they also sell pretty dresses and accessories. New favourite shop for sure!

I paid £10 each for the earrings and necklace which I'm happy with. I liked the earrings so much that I actually wore them straight away and the necklace has been worn today so I'm thinking cost per wear is going to make both items pretty fab value for money.

Next we called into Lush where I picked up a couple of bits that I was running out of. I also finally grabbed a small bottle of Flowers Barrow which is from the Gorilla Perfume range and is a quintessentially English scent built up of rose, geranium, blackcurrant, chamomile as well as a blend of herbs. What I love about Lush perfume is that the high concentration of essential oils in the blend mean that the perfume sits uniquely on each persons skin and smells different to on everyone else so its like wearing my own special scent. The size I bought retails for £14.

On down to Accessorize where I picked up these two sweet little rings in the sale for just £3 for the two. It was the peace ring that drew me in because although it doesn't show from the photo, the stones are actually a pretty milky white and glow almost like opals do. Pretty!

Our final stop was Urban Outfitters. I have wanted this cat cup for months now and just couldn't justify it for anything but when I saw that it was in the sale for £4 I had to bring it home. I'm actually using it to store my shorter makeup brushes because the large Cath Kidston vase I bought last month in the sale is fairly tall and some of the brushes had been lost in the depths. £4 well spent I feel!

So that is this months little haul. I think I was fairly restrained to be honest. I did also spend £6 on a pair of shoes from Asda but I forgot to take a photo of those, oops!

Paco Robanne 1 Million Perfume Review

Perfume is a real passion of mine, I find it magical how a certain smell can transport you to a different time or place and bring back memories that you didn't even know you still had. Fragrance is the one thing that bypasses the rational part of your brain and trick you into the emotional response that you associate with getting a waft of a familiar smell. Clever eh? Fragrance training at work has also heightened my love for perfumes and their makeup and its definitely something that fascinates me.

My beloved perfume collection is pretty extensive and when I was approached by new website Essential Fragrances I jumped at the chance to try out a fragrance that I've heard lots about but never experienced before. Step forward Paco Robanne 1 Million(*)!

1 Million is marketed as a fresh spicy leather fragrance and I would stand by this. It has top notes of fresh fruits and blood mandarin which quickly melt on the skin into warm heart notes of musk and rose. These lovely warm smells are then held to the skin using base notes of warm leather and amber and settle together into a warm but fairly sweet oriental group scent ( my favourite!). One of the things that I've loved the most about this fragrance is just how long lasting the scent is. It settles quickly and becomes a signature smell almost instantly and stays smelling the same day long and well into the evening.
Whilst marketed as a male fragrance and I definitely wouldn't complain if I had a boyfriend who smelt as lovely as 1 Million, I think that the sweet tones to the fragrance make it a very wearable as a female scent too, especially if you aren't into the typical floral scents that are marketed for women.

The packaging itself is fairly masculine; a gold ingot shape with a thick glass back to it and its definitely very striking. The one thing I have noticed though is that the bottle is fairly heavy which I think is from the bulkiness of it but when a fragrance is sat on a dressing table this isn't a problem.

My Happy Place

Ok, so I admit it, I was meant to post a review of the No 7 Instant Radiance Foundation today really but I just didn't fancy writing about it whilst my mind is melting from the heat so I thought I'd give you a little nosey at my happy place; my dressing table.
It sounds sad but I really do love my dressing table a stupid amount. It holds all of my favourite things and I've spent a lot of time getting it looking pretty and being totally functional at the same time.

This stand is actually a cupcake stand that I "borrowed" from my mum that apparently belonged to my great grandma. Its really pretty and delicate with glass shelves and I love how my perfumes all twinkle away sat on it.
The bottom shelf is quick to grab skin care that I use every day and the two little wooden pots are rare little gems from B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful, which is the makeup company Lush used to own, and so is the green pot at the moment. I'm a proud mummy to them haha.

Moving along the desk I have my big basket of skin care and random essentials. I'm a fan of open storage because its so easy to grab without having to root around in cupboards but it has to be neat and tidy which is where the basket comes in :) There's also my No 7 light up mirror.

Finally, on the right hand side I keep my most reached for jewellery in the pretty mirrored drawers which were a christmas present along with my makeup brush stash, tangle teezer and prized collection of rare Lush perfumes (I'm a Lush collector haha)

Tucked underneath the desk is my makeup stash which is split into different categories so that its nice and easy to find. I use the Ikea Helmer drawers and love them. The drawers have a nice large surface area so things don't need to be stacked too much and don't get forgotten about :)

Ta da, thats my happy place :) As you can see, I love lots of little pretty bits and pieces surrounding me. They make me smile. Everything is nice and easy to get to though and has its set place. I get a lot of joy from re-organising and tidying my dressing table. Simple minds eh ;P

The Naughty Body Shop Haul!

I'm sure you've all heard about the Body Shop 40% discount code thats been floating around lately, simply enter EXTRATREAT online or mention the code 14668 instore for 40% everything-sale items included.
Of course I took full advantage and used this as a chance to stock up on all my favourites and the things I've been wanting to try. Needless to say, my basket ended up pretty full!
So what did I buy?

1. Rainforest Balance Shampoo- I've wanted to try this for a while because whilst I love Lush products I just haven't found the right shampoo for me so I thought I'd branch out and try a different range of cruelty free shampoos. This smells amazing and so far I really like it.
2. Cucumber Cleansing Milk- I grabbed this when I saw it reduced to £2 because the cucumber cleansers are known for being totally amazing. Really calming and soothing on the skin yet still effective. Well worth stocking up on.
3. Foundation Brush- If there was one thing I wish Lush sold its makeup brushes, I think they'd go down so well with customers who want something cruelty free and high quality but as we don't, Body Shop score top marks with me for theirs because they are cruelty free, super soft and very effective. One day I will own them all :p
4. Spiced Vanilla Hand Cream- I popped this Christmas range hand cream in my basket for £1 because I've previously tried the Candied Ginger one and got hooked on the smell and feel. I'm obsessed with hand cream so I've stashed it away for now whilst I finish off the L'occitane one I'm enjoying at the moment.
5. Ginger Shimmer Lip Balm- Another Christmas product found super cheap in the sale! Lip Balm is another addiction of mine and I always have at least 3 on the go. At the moment its Lush Honey Trap, Body Shop Chocomania and now this one too. The domed shape makes it really quick and easy to use and I really like how it looks too!
6. Facial Massager- Sorry Body Shop, but this is another product bought just because Lush don't make one. Facial massagers are great for stimulating blood flow around the face and really encouraging products to sink deeper into the skin maximising their effects. I use this in the evening wth my Lush Full of Grace serum bar and it feels totally amazing!
7. Seaweed Mattifying Moisture Lotion- I received a couple of sample pots of this lotion earlier in the year and haven't looked back since. I might even go as far as saying it is my perfect moisturiser. Its light, smells lovely and sinks in fast leaving skin feeling plumped, hydrated and soft without looking oily or clogging pores.
8. Vanilla Eau De Toilette- Total impulse buy here! Vanilla is one of my favourite scents. Soft, sweet and very comforting. As soon as I sniffed this it fell into my basket ready to be kept in my handbag for mid-day top ups. The scent is actually incredibly similar to the scented candles I burn constantly so maybe thats why I find it so cosy.
9. Vitamin C Energising Face Spritz- Another product I've wanted for a while. I was shown this just before going to Tenerife in February and haven't been able to get it out of my head. A quick spray every morning feeds my face and wakes me up ready to get going. The smell is also unbelievably good; zesty and fresh.

Phew, word heavy post! Thats my guilty haul. I also picked up the Pomegranate Day Cream for my mum and a Love Your Body card so 11 items all together. And the over all cost? £47 unbelievable right? I was more than happy with that.

She Said Beauty- June Box Review

Isn't it a shame to see grey skies and rain again after such fab weather?
Yesterday I received my June She Said Beauty box which cheered me up no end. I have been generally really happy with She Said Beauty so far as they give a nice variety of products and I've had at least one full sized product each month but I did roll my eyes this month a little when I was greeted with another set of false lashes. Thats three out of four of their boxes that have contained a pair now. Please send something different next month She Said Beauty! There's only so many pairs of OTT lashes that my cupboard can contain!

So here's what I got:

Over all, I thought this was another good box. Inside there was six samples and I'll use five of them :)

• Yardley London Royal Diamond- I was hesitant when I first saw this because I associate Yardley with sickly sweet floral scents but this is actually really nice. It reminds me of Chloe Eau De Parfum which I really love.
• Balance Me Super Moisturising Hand Cream- This is a full sized 30ml tube which is worth £6 alone so I was happy to get this in my box. It conditions really well and leaves my hands feeling lovely and soft. The scant is a little strong for my liking. It smells of rose which I like if the scent is soft but I think this is just a little heavy and it lingers for a long time.
• Elemis Tranquil Touch Indulgent Bath Elixir- I was really happy to get this as I've given it a sniff a few times in shops and loved the scent but not been able to justify the price tag. I haven't used it yet but I've heard some lovely things in the past. The smell is really deep and relaxing and it contains cocoa butter to soften skin.
• St. Tropez Gradual Tan Everyday Body Moisturuser- This has been the stand out product for me in this box. I'm so pale that I've always been nervous when it comes to self tan so I think a gradual tan probably leaves me less room for mistakes. After all, everyone can get moisturising right cant they! The sample is a generous 75ml so should last long enough for me to get some colour on my legs.
• Lets Go lashes- Lets face it, I have little left to say about these. They are the only downside to the box in my opinion. There are so many other products out there to try, I'm so fed up of getting false lashes! I'll be honest, this brand of lashes are all over the place at the moment; in Glossybox, in She Said Beauty and I also got a pair in my iFabbo goody bag so I don't feel like they're very exciting any more.
• *bonus* Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream- This was a lovely little extra, especially as it was the only make-up sample in the box. I don't know much about this cream but there is no set shades and it claims to be nude coverage so it seems a little more like a primer to me but we'll see.

Over all, I'm really happy with this box, I just hope the false lash obsession ends soon because I feel I may soon drown under the sea of lashes my cupboard contains!

She Said Beauty Box Review- May

I love beauty box time every month when the internet becomes saturated with reviews and discussion about what everyone liked and disliked.
I have a subscription with She Said Beauty and so far, I've been pleased with all of their boxes so lets hope they stick to what they're doing now. I got my box on Thursday and I've already been using a few things out of it.
What I got:

When I opened the box I was greeted by a nice assortment of bits and pieces with a good balance between skin care and cosmetics which is what I like about She Said Beauty. Other boxes tend to sway more towards being skin care heavy. There was also a bonus item which is always exciting to see.

Skin care items:

On the Skin care side of things I received a Natio bar of soap, a set of three Snowberry samples (night cream, lite day cream and eye serum) and a bottle of Green People sun lotion with tan accelerator.
I must say that I was rather disappointed by the bar of soap as I never use soap bars personally but the scent has an interesting concept; they have used scents that are used during yoga sessions to aid relaxation. I will be passing this on to mum however.
The sun lotion seemed a slightly strange choice too (especially given the weather!) but I think this will com in very handy later in the year when I got to Mallorca..
A lot of people haven't been keen on the Snowberry products but I really love them. The scent really isn't great but that quicklyfades away and the products themselves leave skin feeling wonderful so I was happy to get them. I was also happy to see that the three I got actually match my beauty profile on the site so unlike GB they actually use it which is fab!

Cosmetic items:

On the cosmetics front I was really impressed with this months box. Two of the items are full sized and with the Inika lip whip having a RRP price of £14.30 alone, this more than pays for the box! I got the lip whip in Apricot, I got a roller ball sample of Kim Kardashian perfume and a set of "Gracie" lashes from The Vintage Cosmetics Company. I was so happy to get this set of lashes, they were by far my favourite from the selection on offer. I was slightly disappointed to get the lip whip in Apricot as it isn't a colour I wear as I find Apricot shades look a little strange against my light skin but I think over a red lipstick it will look lovely. I'm undecided on the perfume so far as I find it smells a little too sweet for my liking. I love the packaging and the roller ball though. It's so much more interesting than usual perfume sample bottles.

The Verdict:
I'm really happy with this box, and whilst I liked the look of this months GB I think I will definitely be sticking to She Said Beauty for the foreseeable.
